The Montana Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a legally recognized resident entity of Montana. LLCs are much more flexible in their ownership, less formal to operate than a corporation, and if structured properly, there is no need for tax return filings.

Montana LLC by statute can be established to be used as holding companies. For those looking to minimize the overall cost of vehicle ownership Montana is very unique. We have no sales or use tax on vehicle purchases, no personal property tax or ad valarom tax, and reasonable registration fees.

The only required ongoing filing is the Montana Company Annual Report to maintain a Good Standing status with the Secretary of State's Office, which we can facilitate on your behalf.

We make the process simple; we draft and file the Articles of Organization for your company with our Secretary of State. Act as your company's Registered Agent, prepare your company's Operating Agreement, or ownership papers, custom tailored to your situation. Then process your title work and send you the new plates/registration.

Annually, we file your company's annual report to maintain the company and obtain your annual registration renewals each year.

All filings are made electronically via our account with our Secretary of State. We can establish your company and provide all necessary documentation to purchasing, financing, and register within a few hours, if necessary.

It is best to establish the company prior to purchasing, especially if financing. You own the company, the company owns the vehicles and you authorize yourself or other drivers to use those vehicles.

Registration Fees

Registration fees on motor homes are based on the model year. A new motor home with an MSRP below 300k has a maximum registration fee of just over $300 dollars. Older model years are incrementally less until flat rated out at 8 years old or older at about $120 dollars.

Cars, SUVs and trucks, 1 ton and under average from $40 to around $500 dollars depending on age and assessed value.

Montana recently passed new a law implementing a luxury tax in addition to the standard registration fees on some vehicles.   

Cars and SUVs with an original MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) greater than $150,000, 10 years old or newer will be subject to an $825 increase in the annual registration fees.

Motorhomes with an original MSRP greater than $300,000, 10 years old or newer will be subject to an $800 increase in the annual registration fees.

All cars, trucks and motor homes can be permanently registered if they are over 11 years old. Plates and registration remain valid as long as ownership remains the same.

All trailers, 5th wheels, motorcycles, ATV's, boats, trailers and snowmobiles are permanently registered regardless of age. Permanent registration fees for these range from about $80 to just over $300 dollars.
